Water Snakes

Natrix

Members of the water snake clan (genus Natrix) wake in the early spring and can often be found on warm, sunny days on the banks of rivers, lakes and swamps sunning themselves and soaking up heat before plunging into the still-cool waters to hunt their fishy prey. As snakes go these are early risers with only the ribbon and garter snakes emerging earlier.
